Assessment of Teaching and Learning

Effective assessment should be mutually beneficial for students, faculty, and the institution. As classroom faculty, there are many ways to assess student learning. Access departmental assessment resources on the Assessment tab at the top of this webpage.

Formative Assessment Resources

How do you know that your students are learning? There are many options for in-person and online mediums. Some examples are available in this 4 minute video. Talk with colleagues about teaching methods used to assess student learning and how they use feedback from students to adjust content, pacing, or summative assessments.

Looking for ideas?

Do you think you're teaching critical thinking, ethical reasoning, global learning, quantitative literacy, or any of those "gen ed" skills to your students? Want to KNOW that the students are building skills in these important but sometimes abstract knowledge areas? Check out the AAC&UE value rubric initiative. This could be a huge asset for your department's senior seminar, thesis, or comprehensive exams!

Looking to build in some ready-made interactive teaching methods? These short, free videos from the Patricia Cross Academy explain different interactive activities for in-person or online teaching, complete with instructor guides and resources. Great ideas for busy faculty members in any discipline.

Ready to expand your student's research abilities? Free open source assignments submitted by faculty in sciences, social sciences, arts and letters, and more. Project CORA: Community of Online Research Assignments has linked assessment tools, assignments, and class activities to save you lots of valuable prep time.
