The Assessment Process

The assessment process is very much like taking an exciting vacation to wonderful destination.  Great trips require planning and preparation, but you also first have to know where you want to go!  Review the components to the assessment cycle below to explore each important stop on your assessment journey. Let's take this trip together using Six easy steps!

Step 1: Establish Learning Outcomes!

Work with your colleagues to determine learning outcomes for your department or CCR/ACE area.

Step 2: Build a Rubric!
Develop a rubric to help you your data collection journey.

Step 3: Develop an assignment or task to score!
Develop an assignment that aligns with your rubric OR use an existing assignment--the choice is yours!

Step 4: Use your Rubric to Score your assignment.
Use the rubric to assess the assignment. Some create a rubric that also doubles as a scoring tool for the course grade, but you do not have to do that.
Use your Rubric to Score your assignment.

Step 5: Analyze your Data!
Collect your data from your rubrics and summarize to reveal trends.
Analyze your Data!

Step 6: Plan and implement changes!
Reflect on your data trends and plan for how to make data-informed decisions. What does my data tell me?
